MyDashboard 0.3 beta available for the brave.

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I am proud to announce that I have just made version 0.3beta of the MyDashboard plugin available for download.

This version should fix a few errors that have been cropping up and have been reported both on this blog and in the support forum.

As well as bug fixes, version 0.3beta introduces the much requested Multi-user functionality.

Each WordPress user can know have their own Dashboard and settings (including skins), with the system automatically displaying the correct dashboard based on the logged in user.

There are likely to be a few bugs to be spotted with this functionality, as it is a major re-write of some sections of code, so this version is only for the brave.

At present version 0.3 requires a fresh installation, I am yet to finalise the transfer of existing Dashboard settings across to the new storage format, but should have it ready very soon.

If you already have a version of MyDashboard available, then De-activate it using your WordPress admin system and remove the two entries starting with clearskys_dashboard in the wp_options table of your WordPress database. You can then upload the new version and activate it.

I would appreciate it if any bugs or security concerns are posted in the forum, or as a comment on this blog post, so that they can be rectified as quickly as possible.

Nice one Barry! And congrats on being a winner in the plugin competition.

Now if Planet Wordpress can actually get it’s feed straightened out, I’ll have the “More News” widget working too. It’s been gone most of the day.

Thank you for your release of 0.3 beta.
I upgraded the mydashboard from 0.2.6 to 0.3.
I didn’t remove any entries in the wp_options table. But it works.

In the future release, I want the memo pad that can be used with all users. Then I will share informations by that.

The Beta didn’t work for me…

It works fine for my Admin account, but when I tried it with a lower-privileged account, I got the original Dashboard, plus a “My Dashboard” tab. Clicking on the “My Dashboard” tab gave the following:

What I’d like to see is the ability to choose whether it’s multi-user or not, and if it’s not Multi-user, then control which users are allowed to update it - either by User level, or, (better) by using a new or existing capability (e.g. the “Switch Themes” capability.

In other words, only Admins can change the Dashboard, but everyone can see it. (In V0.2.6, anyone can change it; I assume that the way it’s supposed to work in V0.3.0 is that everyone starts with the same Dashboard, but every individual can customise their own version)

Great initial plugin, though! Look forward to seeing how it develops.

    Neil.

    Neil: Thanks
I am aware of a few problems with the 0.3 beta and should have a new version out very soon.
I did say that there might be a few problems ;)
